Los Angeles Magazine's The Food Event 2019 - A Foodie's Dream Come True!

Creativity drives progress. It’s also what makes Los Angeles one of the best food cities in the world. The tireless efforts of the city’s talented chefs keep us marching with bold new flavors and bring fresh life into classic dishes. It can be difficult to truly appreciate the grand scale of this culinary endeavor, but Los Angeles Magazine’s The Food Event helps to guide your taste buds in the right direction.
There’s something for everyone at the annual event held at the majestic Saddlerock Ranch, home of Malibu Family Wines and a menagerie of animals that make up their famous safari.
Check out my top choices from this year’s 2019 event!
Best Wine - Modus Operandi - 2016 Pinot Noir - From the Bacigalupi Vineyard comes an exceptional California red heavy on fruit flavor and with an earthy nose that begs for a second glass to be poured. It happened to pair perfectly with Pasta Sisters' meat lasagna.

Biggest Food Surprise - Gracias Madre - Coconut Ceviche - This was a great year if you love ceviche, but not all ceviches are created equal. It was a delightfully creative and refreshing dish that changed what my concept of ceviche can be (vegan)!

Best Non-Wine - Roku Gin - I was instantly pulled into the bouquet of flavors in this Japanese craft spirit with a single straight sip. Can’t wait to try this in a Martini or even in a Saturn cocktail.

Best Dish - Rice Box - Mary’s Chicken Wings stuffed with pork belly, sticky rice, salted egg yolk and sausage hit all the marks for me. Perfect in crispy texture, bold flavor, and quality of ingredients. Comfort food at its best! This is why I love Los Angeles Magazine’s The Food Event because it helps you discover these gems.

Best Dessert - Supercool Creamery - Strawberry Lemon Sorbet - Tasty enough to make a sorbet fan out of anyone and you can’t beat the impeccable showmanship of their crew!
